Interview Questions – Special Education Teacher

Usually at this time of year, many of us are frantically searching educationposts.ie in the hope of firstly, securing an interview and secondly, getting a job.  Like many of you, I have gone for several unsuccessful interviews and sometimes, it can have such a negative effect on your self-confidence. But at the end of the day, that’s life and not getting a job from your first interview is something many people experience.

Keep going. Keep your head held high. Try not to panic.

I have compiled a list of questions that I was asked in my last interview, which was for the position of a Special Education Teacher. From my experience, I wouldn’t advise learning off paragraphs of answers as you want to come across natural but it would help to have gone through some questions with others and prepare some points that would help you with your answers.

Questions based on an Interview for the post of a Special Education Teacher.

  1. Tell us about experience and qualifications.
  2. Why did you apply for this job?
  3. Describe your teaching style.
  4. If a child says “no one else likes me” how do you respond?
  5. Discuss school support plan.
  6. What forms of assessment do you use?
  7. How can you demonstrate team work and flexibility?
  8. Why do Special Education Teachers need to work well with others?
  9. What do you know about literacy lift off and other set initiatives?
  10. How would you deal with a disruptive pupil?
  11. How would you inform parents of progress of child?
  12. How do you promote the catholic ethos of a school?
  13. Any information you would like to add?

While not all of these questions will come up and there are many others types of questions that could be asked, it’s a starting point to help you prepare. Hope this helps! Leah x
